Continuum are a progressive publisher of non-fiction titles based in the UK. They approached Transmission to create a striking contemporary design for their new title ‘Philosophy and Simulation’ by the prominent writer, artist and philosopher Manuel DeLanda. The book deals with all genres of computer simulation from cellular automata and genetic algorithms.

Transmission began by researching computer simulation, particularly within nature before experimenting with graphic shapes and patterns. During the research stage we noticed the similarities between a computer circuit board and forks of lightening and decided to pursue this direction. The resulting illustration shows the circuit enter the top of a ‘generator’ before spilling out the bottom as lightening.
