Graphic design could roughly be described as visual communication by means of colours, images, patterns and text. It is mostly applied in advertising, package design and public relations work. Traditionally, print media used to be the main field of work for graphic designers, but recently modern electronic mass media like computers and the world wide web have opened up new horizons. Everything that can be reproduced two-dimensionally can be used as a tool: photography, typography, symbols, patterns, colours, drawings, fine art.
It’s the overall impression created by the application of these means that counts.
Graphic design can communicate all sorts of meanings: respectability, reliability and safety, or vitality, innovation and originality, reservation or vehemency, simplicity or playfulness, timelessness or topicality – there are virtually no boundaries. The operational area of the designers featured in this book include graphic design, posterdesign, corporate identity, editorial design, cover design, postcards, invitation cards, catalogues, flyer design, brochure, booklet, displays. We are proud to present more than 550 pieces by as many international designers.
